Essential Tasks of the Physical Sciences Librarian
These are the essential tasks that other staff members need to cover when the Librarian is away. The position responsible for completing/delegating these tasks is the Branch Library Supervisor.
- Approval Book Ordering
- Slips - Collect the slips of the books that don't match the profile of the library. This is done the first Monday of the two-week display cycle of the approval books. Call Approval Room (1-4039) for information about the display cycle.
- Book Notices - The book notices for the next approval shipment are photocopied by the Approval Room staff on the Friday before the two-week display cycle begins. They are ready to be picked up on Friday afternoon.
- Selection - Start selecting the books on the second Wednesday of the two-week display cycle and finish by the morning of the second Friday (i.e. two days later).
- Reference Questions via email
- Answer them or refer them to the Engineering Librarian or Reference Dept.
- Tours of the Library
- Give them but don't schedule them for the Librarian.
- Book Purchases
- Walk the request over to Acquisitions. Each request needs three
pieces of information: Fund, Location, Initials
- University Funds
- CHPH-[year]
- MSCI-[year]
- KSCI-[year]
- [year] - represents the first year of the fiscal year, e.g. 2000 for the fiscal year of 2000/2001
- Chemistry-Physics Library.
- Walk the request over to Acquisitions. Each request needs three
pieces of information: Fund, Location, Initials
- Meeting Notices
- Look at Librarian's schedule posted on bulletion board above
the Librarian's desk for meetings. Notify appropriate person:
