The Library and the College of Science have agreed to sacrifice part of the second floor of the Chemistry-Physics Library for a research computing facility.
The southern part of the second floor of the library will be converted into a research computing facility.
The northern part of the second floor will have an office, two group study areas, and some shelving to separate the group study areas.
Timeline:
May 9, 2005 - start transferring materials to Hesburgh Library to vacate the southern part of the second floor
June 1 , 2005 - southern part of the second floor will be completely vacated
July 1 , 2005 - transferring materials should be completed and most of the rest of the second floor will be vacated
The following dates are tentative
August 15 , 2005 - integrating and shifting of the collection will be completed
August 31, 2005 - two group study areas are created
Before May 2006 - research computing facility is constructed
Before August 2006 - office is constructed
What will be transferred?
1. Any dissertation published before 2001.
2. Any journal that is available on the web.
3. Any book that has not circulated in the past five years.
4. If there are any duplicate materials between Hesburgh & Chemistry-Physics, then the best copy will be retained. In some cases duplicates will be retained.
Reorganization
1. Journals and books will be integrated - one call number run instead of two.
2. Unbound journals will be shelved next to the bound.
3. Current journal issues will still be displayed for one week in their current location.
4. Reference will move into the area that the unbound journals now occupy.
5. Two group study areas will be created upstairs
